The laboratory of Dr. Jalees Rehman at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to fill a Postdoctoral Research Scientist position in the areas of cancer biology and vascular biology. One of the main goals of the Rehman laboratoryí»s research program is to understand the role of the vasculature in tumor growth and tumor metastasis. We are looking for a researcher to work at the interface between vascular biology and tumor biology. All candidates must have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in the biological or biomedical sciences, as well as experience working in two or more of the following areas: 1) vascular biology, 2) cancer biology, 3) cellular metabolism, 4) epigenetics and transcriptional regulation, 5) engineering of organoids derived from human pluripotent stem cells, 6) animal models and 7) computational biology.
All candidates must have at least one first-author original research article accepted for publication in a leading peer-reviewed journal. The successful applicant will develop a research project identifying novel mechanisms of tumor growth and metastasis using state-of-the art molecular studies, in vivo tumor models and lineage tracing. Potential research projects could include studying the role of vascular permeability in enabling metastasis, studying the role of lineage conversion and vascular mimicry by tumor cells, identifying novel mechanisms of angiogenesis and lymph-angiogenesis, studying the role of stromal and perivascular cells in tumor progression or metastasis, or the use of organoids to model the tumor-vascular interface. The position is ideally suited for an enthusiastic post-doctoral scientist who wants to pursue a career in academic research and develop expertise in multidisciplinary research.
Our institution offers a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with close interaction with other basic and clinical scientists. The laboratory of Dr. Rehman is part of the Department of Medicine, the Department of Pharmacology, the Cancer Center and the UIC Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center. All laboratory members have access to state-of-the-art research equipment including super-resolution microscopy and single cell sequencing which enable our researchers to conduct high-impact work and significantly advance the field.
Minimum degree and field of knowledge: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in cancer biology, vascular biology, bioengineering, stem cell biology, molecular biology, cell biology, computational biology, or related field. An ideal candidate would have extensive experience working with cancer cells and/or vascular cells, animal models as well as expertise in the use of confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, and molecular biology (qPCR, cloning, immunoprecipitation, western blotting). Expertise in epigenetics, stem cell biology and high throughput sequencing (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, DNA methylation, RNA-seq) would be very valuable.
Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and is competitive for postdoctoral research fellows.
